Arcane Tradition

War Wizard

A War Wizard is a battle-hardened spellcaster who fights alongside soldiers on the battlefield, seamlessly blending arcane magic with martial prowess. They command the battlefield with a strategic mix of destructive spells and defensive enchantments, turning the tide of conflict with their formidable presence and tactical brilliance.

War Magic

As a war mage, you gain proficiency with light armour, medium armour, and shields.

Armoured Casting

You ignore spell failure from armour when you cast wizard spells wearing light or medium armour.

Focused Magus

As a reaction, when you have to make a Constitution saving throw to maintain concentration on a spell, you gain a bonus to the saving throw equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of +1).

Power Surge

Starting at 6th level, you can store magical energy within yourself to later empower your damaging spells. In its stored form, this energy is called a power surge:

  • You have a number of power surges equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of one) and you regain all your power surges when you finish a long rest.

  • Once per turn when you use a spell slot to cast a spell, you can use a power surge to treat the spell as if it was cast using a spell slot 1 level higher. You cannot increase the spell’s total level above 6th level when you use a power surge.

Durable Magic

Beginning at 14th level, the magic you channel helps ward off harm. While you maintain concentration on a spell, you gain +2 bonus to AC and all saving throws.

Also, when you score a critical hit with a spell of 1st level or higher, or a creature rolls a 1 on the saving throw against the spell, you can use a reaction to regain one of your power surges.
